This report, through Girls Leadership, Evaluation Studio, and the Girl's Leadership Youth Research Council (YRC), examines leadership aspirations among Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander girls and gender expansive youth, as well as the challenges they face, especially in relation to their race/ethnicity and/or gender identity. The authors conducted a national survey of 2,275 youth participants, 30 in-depth interviews, photovoice submissions, and discussions with 30+ AANHPI-serving community-based organizations, as well as a national survey of 500 teachers.
As a follow up to this report, the Youth Research Council put together a list of six policy recommendations for policymakers and educators to better support leadership potential among AANHPI youth.
