Qualitative Methods in Addiction Research: A One Day Masterclass

The aim is to stimulate further interest in, and understanding of, qualitative methods in the addiction field. The day will be structured around lectures by four leading UK-based qualitative researchers, who will each showcase one of their own qualitative projects. There will also be time for discussion and interaction with the audience. The event will be filmed and the recordings will be edited and curated to produce a new qualitative methods resource for the SSA website.

The event is aimed at people who already have a working understanding of qualitative methods. The cost will be £40 per person (which will include lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments). Places are limited to 50 and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Global Alcohol Policy Conference (GAPC 2020)

The 6th Global Alcohol Policy Conference 2020 (GAPC 2020) will be held in Dublin, Ireland 9-11 March 2020. The Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA) is a network of not-for-profit organisations and people working in public health agencies who share information on alcohol issues and advocate evidence-based alcohol policies, free from commercial interests. The GAPA mission is to “reduce alcohol-related harm worldwide by promoting science-based policies independent of commercial interests”. ?

GAPC is the leading forum for the world’s alcohol policy makers, advocates, researchers, civil society activists and practitioners. Building on the strong commitment and recent alcohol policy interventions in the country, Ireland is the perfect host for GAPC 2020.

The conference in Ireland will have the theme: “Alcohol, Equity and Global Health: the benefit of alcohol control for sustainable development for all.” It maintains the tradition of focusing on advocacy, overcoming vested interests in alcohol policy development and the need for international collaboration to stop the harm caused by alcohol.
